Philippe Laffont’s Coatue Management cut its Nvidia and Meta Platforms shares and added Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) shares in the quarter ended December 31, 2025. Its 13F filing, submitted to the SEC on February 17, 2026, shows 667,405 fewer Nvidia shares, 253,768 fewer Meta shares and 556,988 more TSMC shares than a quarter earlier, by our subtraction of the September 30 filing from the December 31 filing. A Motley Fool article on February 24, 2026 called TSMC his new top holding. The two later filings, for March 31 and June 30, 2026, show him still holding all three, with TSMC the largest.
This is a report of what filings show, not a recommendation to buy or sell anything. Our earlier version of this article carried an opinion headline about the move being a mistake; no filing supports that, so we removed it.
What did Coatue hold in each 13F filing?
A 13F lists the long positions an institutional manager held on the last day of a quarter. The table below uses Coatue Management’s four most recent quarterly filings (CIK 1135730), summing every line for each company. TSMC is held as American depositary shares. The rank column is our own ranking of the filing’s issuers by reported value.
| Quarter end (filed) | Nvidia shares | Meta shares | TSMC shares | TSMC rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| September 30, 2025 (November 14, 2025) | 9,870,743 | 4,035,717 | 8,072,536 | 4th |
| December 31, 2025 (February 17, 2026) | 9,203,338 | 3,781,949 | 8,629,524 | 2nd |
| March 31, 2026 (May 15, 2026) | 6,331,620 | 2,812,056 | 9,283,547 | 1st |
| June 30, 2026 (August 14, 2026) | 6,055,197 | 2,526,048 | 8,914,995 | 1st |
Read across, Nvidia shares fell 38.7 percent and Meta shares fell 37.4 percent from September 30, 2025 to June 30, 2026, while TSMC shares rose 10.4 percent (our arithmetic on the filed counts). Sources: filings for March 31, 2026 and June 30, 2026 alongside the two linked above.
Was TSMC really Coatue’s top holding in February 2026?
The Motley Fool called it that. In the December 31, 2025 filing, TSMC’s 8,629,524 shares were reported at $2.62 billion. Alphabet, which the filing splits across Class A and Class C lines and many rows, totals $2.77 billion when summed, so by our tally TSMC ranked second at that date. By the March 31, 2026 filing TSMC was first on either method, at $3.14 billion of $29.06 billion in reported value, and in the June 30, 2026 filing at $4.26 billion of $48.63 billion, about 8.8 percent of the reported total. In that same filing Meta was $1.42 billion and Nvidia $1.21 billion. Values are quarter-end prices times shares.
What has happened since the February 2026 story?
- February 17, 2026: the December 31, 2025 filing, the basis of the Motley Fool story.
- May 15, 2026: Coatue filed an amendment (13F-HR/A) restating the December 31 filing; its Nvidia, Meta and TSMC share counts match the original. The same day it filed the March 31 report, where Nvidia shares fell 31.2 percent and Meta shares 25.6 percent from the prior quarter, and TSMC rose 7.6 percent.
- August 14, 2026: the June 30 report shows Nvidia down another 4.4 percent, Meta down 10.2 percent, and TSMC down 4.0 percent in shares but up in value. Behind TSMC by reported value were Lam Research ($4.09 billion), Micron Technology ($3.63 billion), a position listed as Space Exploration Techn Corp ($3.17 billion) and Applied Materials ($3.05 billion).
The next filing, for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, is due in mid-November and is not yet public. It is the next date that can confirm or change any of this.
What do these filings not show?
They show quarter-end snapshots of reportable long positions only. They do not show trades inside a quarter, short positions, holdings outside the 13F rules, or why a manager acted. The Motley Fool’s “AI stock” label is its framing; the filings contain only share counts and values.
Our read: for a small business that buys AI tools by subscription, a fund’s portfolio is not a price signal. What can reach a customer’s bill is the cost of running models, which we cover in our pieces on AI pricing with expiry dates and on the chip race between Huawei and Nvidia. Coatue’s SpaceX line also ties to our report on SpaceX buying Cursor. Our read is that AI should give owners and teams time back, and it is worth watching vendor costs for that reason, not fund flows.
